Sunday Fire Causes Temporary Evacuation of Ames Apartment Building
Fire officials said a small deck fire was caused by improperly discarded smoking material.

A fire on a deck caused the temporary evacuation of an apartment complex on Coconino Road, early Sunday.
Ames firefighters were alerted to the fire by an automatic fire alarm about 5:30 a.m.
Firefighters discovered smoke on the first floor and evacuated the building and saw a small fire on a deck that had extended into an exterior wall.

No one was injured. Two apartments received minor damage but remain inhabitable. Damages were estimated at $10,000.
A release from the fire department said that the fire appeared to be caused by β improperly discarded smoking material.β
