Defending champion Nate McCoy holds a one-shot edge after steady play at Veenker Memorial Golf Course, with several challengers close behind as the tournament heads for a tense finish.
   

• Polk County to construct safer trail crossing one year after deadly crash (kcci.com) — Polk County is moving ahead with new safety features at a dangerous High Trestle Trail crossing, a key route for many Ankeny cyclists. After a fatal crash last year, the county plans a concrete crossing, speed signs and push-button flashing beacons by year's end, while local riders from Ankeny continue to press for added measures like rumble strips.
   

• Families call for change after two deaths at rural Bondurant intersection (who13.com) — A deadly rural intersection near Bondurant has claimed two lives since May, including 19-year-old Samantha Moore of Ankeny, and grieving families are pushing Polk County to act. After a petition drew thousands of signatures, county officials say they've hired a consultant for a full safety study of NE 94th Avenue and NE 56th Street, with recommendations for improvements expected.
