EBR School Board unanimously passes contract crackdown, mandatory 'two-signature' rule for Superintendent (wafb.com) — East Baton Rouge Parish school leaders have temporarily stripped the superintendent of sole contracting power, requiring both his and the deputy superintendent's signatures on all spending through mid-2027 and ordering an outside audit of recent contracts. The move, backed by Superintendent LaMont Cole, adds new public reporting requirements and aims to tighten financial oversight amid wider scrutiny of Baton Rouge governance.
   

2. Baton Rouge man dies after hit-and-run; driver never had a license (wafb.com) — A 23-year-old Baton Rouge man, Destin Pickett, has died after a hit-and-run on North Street near North 39th, where police say the driver fled and had never held a license. His grieving family is remembering his generosity, honoring his decision to be an organ donor, and urging Baton Rouge drivers to be more cautious and accountable on city streets.
   

3. Rooted in programs like Project Excel and 100 Black Men of Metro Baton Rouge, his win showcases how local mentoring and public-speaking opportunities are helping Baton Rouge teens shine on a national stage.
   

5. 'Matt's Dinner' turns tragedy into mission to offer mental health support for LSU students (wafb.com) — LSU's Tiger Band in Baton Rouge is honoring former member Matt Bahlinger by turning his family's tragedy into a mental health mission for current students. Through the Matthew Bahlinger Memorial Fund and the annual Matt's Dinner, Tiger Band and College of Music and Dramatic Arts students now have a dedicated on-campus clinician and stronger support for suicide prevention and counseling.
