📰 News we're reading

• This Kenner 'beach' thrives on volleyball, cold beer, decades of camaraderie: 'We're still here' (nola.com) — Coconut Beach in Kenner has grown into a year‑round hangout for locals, with about 20 sand volleyball courts, a family‑friendly bar and grill, and leagues that draw players several nights a week. After relocating from New Orleans and surviving Katrina, a land dispute, and the pandemic, the Kenner complex is now planning upgrades to keep this lakeside oasis thriving for future generations.

• Pelicans race to complete renovation of G League team's venue by November (sportsbusinessjournal.com) — Kenner is rushing to finish costly roof, HVAC, and mold repairs at the Pontchartrain Convention & Civic Center so the Pelicans' G League team, the Laketown Squadron, can start playing there in November. The city is spending about $4.5 million on unexpected fixes while coordinating up to $5 million in Pelicans‑funded upgrades, including new courts, locker rooms, and a video board.

• SPARE NOTES: Long standing Youth Event To Be Held This Weekend (wbrz.com) — Kenner's Bowlero Lanes will host the 60th Louisiana State Youth Match Games this Saturday and Sunday, bringing young bowlers from across the state to town. While competing events may pull some Louisiana athletes away, organizers hope the new October date boosts entries, and local fans can also catch top college teams at the Colonial Lanes Classic in nearby Harahan.
