• Big expansion approved for New Orleans area landfill, making it Louisiana's largest (nola.com) — Residents in River Ridge and nearby neighborhoods are facing a major change as state regulators approve a massive expansion of the River Birch landfill complex across the river, despite long-running complaints about foul odors. The project will more than double capacity, extend operations through 2090, and allow limited out-of-state trash, while environmental groups question methane emissions and officials insist controls and monitoring are adequate.
