Maine House speaker says state looking at ways to ease federal healthcare cuts, heating oil spikes (centralmaine.com) — State leaders plan to return to Augusta in January looking for ways to blunt federal Medicaid and SNAP cuts and soaring heating oil prices that could hit thousands of Maine households. Speaker Ryan Fecteau and other advocates say options include using a $30 million SNAP contingency fund, stretching heating assistance dollars, and helping hospitals and Medicaid recipients navigate new work requirements starting in 2027.
