MARYLAND — Three festivals are coming to Maryland. They will celebrate African heritage, small watercraft and monarch butterflies. Residents can also enjoy the great outdoors on a scenic railroad or at a protected park.

Patch recently partnered with several local organizations to bring you their latest news. This guest contribution comes from National Park Service Chesapeake Gateways and Chesapeake Conservancy. Here's what Jody Hedeman Couser submitted to help you explore the Chesapeake Bay:

"Kunta Kinte Heritage Festival

Kunta Kinte was one of 98 enslaved people brought to Annapolis, Maryland aboard the ship Lord Ligonier in 1767. Despite many years in bondage, he never lost his connection to his African heritage and he symbolizes the struggle of all ethnic groups to preserve their cultural heritage. The annual Kunta Kinte celebration is a joyous occasion with plenty of food, music and dancing. There will be three stages for entertainment, over a hundred artisan, food and community vendors and a children’s activity tent. Sept. 24, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.; Annapolis City Dock, MD.
