Cop Shooter Earns More Prison Time for Probation Violation

Annapolis man who shot and nearly killed an Anne Arundel County Police officer was on probation for an earlier armed robbery at the time.

ANNAPOLIS, MD — The shooter serving 55 years in prison for critically wounding a county police officer outside an area 7-Eleven store has had more prison time tacked on to his sentence for violating probation on another crime.

Colvin White, 31, of Annapolis, was convicted of attempted first-degree murder and use of a firearm in the commission of a crime of violence. On June 6, White was sentenced to life plus 20 years, with all but 55 years suspended, for shooting Corporal Larry Adams in April of 2015.

On Tuesday, an Anne Arundel County judge sentenced White to a consecutive 6 years and 311 days for a violation of probation stemming from his 2009 conviction for conspiracy to commit armed robbery. White violated that probation when he shot Cpl. Adams.

"I want to thank Judge Mulford for following through on the sentence that White was told he would receive if he violated probation and for running the sentence consecutively to the new conviction," said Wes Adams, Anne Arundel County state's attorney, in a statement. "Probation is a time to demonstrate that you have rehabilitated. If you fail, we will hold you separately accountable for your new crime, and your old one."

Judge Mulford declined requests from White's attorney for the sentence to run concurrently and to give double credit for time spent in jail.

White was on probation for his role in the 2009 armed robbery of a couple in the Meade Village area. Prosecutors say White, who was armed with a rifle, and four other men robbed the couple of $60 and a cell phone.

A jury convicted White of conspiracy to commit armed robbery. He was sentenced to 12 years, with all but 5 years suspended, and served about half that time before being released on probation. In 2012, White violated his probation and returned to jail for 54 days. The rest of White's original sentence was suspended and he continued on probation. White shot Officer Adams in April of 2015 while he was on probation for this case.

The police officer was shot in the neck after he likely interrupted the robbery of an Annapolis 7-Eleven store and is working to regain use of his left arm so he can return to duty, the police department said previously.

The shooting occurred when Adams went to the 7-Eleven store for a routine business check, and was told that a person outside the store was acting in a suspicious manner. When the officer went to investigate, there was an altercation with White, who shot Adams before he fled the scene.

Authorities said White and Danielle Blake, 30, of Severn, were driving a van that had run out of gas near the East College Parkway 7-Eleven store. Adams planned to give the driver, White, $5 for gas, but a scuffle and chase ensued when he asked White for identification. White hid in the tree line and ambushed Officer Adams before fleeing the scene.

Police said White and Blake have children together.

Blake pleaded guilty in October to transporting a handgun in a vehicle and being an accessory after-the-fact in the April 10 shooting.

Adams was the first Anne Arundel County Police officer to be shot in the line of duty since July of 2008, when an officer was shot in Brooklyn Park. There has never been a fatal shooting in the department’s history.
