Suspect Takes Nearly 500 Feet of Traffic Light Wiring: Police

The Glen Burnie man reportedly caused $2,200 damage to lights along Route 10 near Ordnance Road, Anne Arundel County Police say.

A suspected metal thief allegedly took 465 feet of wiring from traffic lights in Glen Burnie early Saturday morning, police say, which caused more than $2,000 damage.

Anne Arundel County Police received a report of a man tampering with the wiring for lights along Route 10 near the Ordnance Road exit just before 6:30 a.m. Officers found Bruce Edward Crandell Jr., 21, of 115 Ilene Road in Glen Burnie wearing a reflective vest and hardhat.

Police say Crandell had almost 500 feet of wiring that had been removed from the lights.

Crandell did not have permission to be on the property or to remove the wiring. He was arrested and charged with theft and destruction to property.

The wiring was recovered and returned to the State Highway Administration. Crews estimate it will cost at least $2,200 to replace the wires.
