4-Car Pasadena Crash May Have Been Caused by Medical Issue

Police say a four-vehicle crash involving drivers from Pasadena may have been caused by a medical problem one driver suffered.

PASADENA, MD — Four Pasadena drivers were involved in a pile-up Monday night that may have started when one of the drivers suffered a medical problem, authorities said. Only one of the drivers was injured in the crash, which happened about 10:40 p.m. on MD-100 eastbound at MD-10 southbound in Pasadena, according to Anne Arundel County Police.

Investigators say a Dodge Caravan was westbound in the eastbound lanes of MD-100 when it struck a Ford F-150 pickup truck traveling eastbound nearly head-on, and then struck an eastbound Chevrolet Silverado. The van then veered off of the roadway and struck a tree. A Chrysler Pacifica traveling behind the pickup truck struck the F-150 from behind after the initial crash.

The driver of the Caravan, Yasmine Siadi Carter, 31, of Pasadena, was extricated from her vehicle by the Anne Arundel County Fire Department and flown to University of Maryland Shock Trauma in Baltimore with serious injuries. No other injuries were reported.

Police say the crash was likely caused by Carter's Caravan going the wrong way on MD-100. Alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the wreck.

Investigators are looking into the possibility of a medical issue leading to the events right before the crash. Any charges are pending review by the State’s Attorney.
