6/5 O's From the Booth - O's Win in Extras at Fenway, Knock Sox Off in 10

O's @ Red Sox game recap 6/5.

Good evening O's Fans.  The Orioles continue their great play at Fenway knocking off the Red Sox in extra innings 8-6.  This is the O's fourth win an a row this year at Fenway and sixth dating back to last year.  This was a very surprising game tonight.

The O's scored eight runs and not one of them by way of the long ball.  Jim Johnson  blows his first save of the year but gets the win.  The O's banged out 15 hits tonight.  Steve Tolleson was the only Oriole starter not to get a hit tonight.

Adam Jones got the O's started with a RBI single in the third driving in Endy Chavez who had 3 hits in the game.  Matt Wieters then singled to drive in Andino to make it 2-0. The Sox tied the game in the bottom of the 5th on a bunt by Posednik and a throwing error by Reynolds and a sac fly by Pedroia.

The O's went right back on top in the sixth on a sac fly by newly acquired Steve Pearce. The Red Sox answered with two runs in their half of the sixth to take the lead 4-3.  The O's then answered with three of their own in the seventh to take a 6-4 lead.

That lead held into the ninth. Jim Johnson on for save number 18.  With two out and Ortiz on second, Jared Saltalamachia with two strikes, hits a two run home run to tie the game 6-6.  It was reviewed by the umps as it looked to be off the top of the wall. The call was confirmed a home run.

The battling O's tonight did not waste anytime.  They picked up Jim Johnson by scoring two runs in the top half of the tenth inning on RBI singles by Ronnie Paulino and Endy Chavez.  Jim Johnson came back out in the tenth and got the Sox three-up-three-down to earn the win.

This was a great win for the O's.  They have been struggling mightily over the past couple weeks. They showed a lot of heart tonight.  They just battled and battled and earned the victory tonight.

The Rays were shutout by the Yankees tonight so the O's are tied for first place again.  The Yanks are only a half game out.  Wei-Yin Chen will be on the mound for the O's tomorrow in game two of the series.  The Red Sox will have Josh Beckett on the mound.  If the O's can win tomorrow, their four series losing streak will be over.  Go get them Chen!!!  Let's go O's!!!!!
