Good evening Orioles fans. Man, what a game. This had a playoff feel to it in game 2. This was not the outcome we expected tonight after jumping out early. The O's were able to jump out to a 3-0 lead early on a opposite field blast from Chris Davis who is off to a sizzling start going 4-4 tonight. Chris Davis drove in the 4th run on a two out single in the 6th inning. Wei Yen Chen pitched a quality 5 2/3 and left with a 4-1 lead and a runner on base. Luis Ayala came in and gave up a single to Longoria and a 3 run blast to Shelley Duncan and just like that it was 4-4. WOW. Chen could only look on. Ayala struck out Escobar to end the inning. The resilient Orioles fought back and took the lead in the 7th on a Reimold walk, Brian Roberts single and a Nate McClouth single. Machado grounded into a double play to end the inning. Why McClouth was not running, I don't know. Pedro Strop came on in the 7th inning and just looked awful after pitching so well in the WBC. He gave up 3 runs and the O's were now behind 7-5. The resilient Birds battled back again getting a run in the 8th on a Davis double and Wieters RBI single. Tommy Hunter pitched a scoreless 8th and it was time for Fernando Rodney. Reimold drew a walk off Rodney which Rodney was not very happy about. Brian Roberts then doubled down the line in left and Reimold scored all the way from first to tie the game at 7. They just kept battling. McClouth then bunted Roberts to 3rd with one out. This is where I would have liked to seen the Orioles pull out the squeeze play to get that run across with Manny who handles that bat well and speed at 3rd in Roberts. That is why I am writing this and Buck is managing though. Manny grounded out to a pulled in infield and Markakis grounded out to end the inning stranding Roberts at 3rd base. The O's decided to stick with Tommy Hunter in the 9th and Matt Joyce hit a bomb off a fastball in the right field bleachers and the Rays were walk-off winners.
This was a tough loss for the Orioles but man did they battle. The O's bullpen just did not have it tonight giving up 7 runs in 3 innings plus. They always say that bullpens who are great one year have a tendency to not replicate it the following year. Lets hope that is not the case with this one. Let's hope Miguel Gonzales can pitch well for the Orioles tomorrow and the O's can get a opening series victory at the Trop. Let's Go O's!!!
