Good evening O's fans, and a good evening it was. The O's were able to get that one run win to go their way tonight. This was a real reminder of that team of last year, got enough offensively, a descent starting pitching outing and a great performance from the bullpen.
The O's got on the board first as Chris Davis did it again with a homer to center field. I don't know if you will ever see a better offensive start as you are from Davis, Jones, and Markakis combined. The Red Sox got two runs in the bottom of the third inning to take the lead and that was it for them scoring for the night. Tillman was by no means dominant tonight but showed a lot of improvement and got through 5 1/3 innings allowing two runs, six hits and had five strike outs. There was a big point in the 6th where Tillman gave up a couple of singles and was relieved by Brian Matusz. Brian came in with two runners on and one out and was able to strike Saltalamachia and Stephen Drew and shut down the possible rally and kept the O's in the game. The O's got big nights from Adam Jones and Manny Machado. Machado laid down a beautiful bunt single to get on with one out in the 6th. He was running on the pitch when Markakis grounded out to 3rd staying out of the double play. This was huge as Adam Jones got a big two out single to tie the game at two. Pedro Strop pitched a scoreless seventh. In the O's half of the seventh they were able to mount a two out rally. Machado singled, Markakis walked, and Adam Jones came through again with a big RBI double to give the O's the 3-2 lead. Darren O'Day came in to pitch a scoreless eighth and Jim Johnson came in to close it out in the ninth and sealed the deal for the O's. That is 25 straight regular season saves for Jim, the longest current MLB streak.
As I mentioned earlier this looked a lot like what we were used to seeing from this team last year. It was a close game and the O's starting pitching and bullpen did the job to keep the Red Sox down and the offense came up with key hits to get the job done. This was a all around well played baseball game. The O's now head into the Bronx for a weekend duel with the Yankees. Let's hope the O's roll the momentum down to New York. Let's Go O's!!!!!!!!!!!
