Man Overdoses, Fights With Police, Dies Days Later In Hospital

A Pasadena man who reportedly fought with responders treating him for an overdose died several days later at a hospital, police say.

PASADENA, MD — A man who reportedly overdosed on PCP, then fought with paramedics and police officers, died five days later at a hospital, according to Anne Arundel County Police. Fire department were first called just before 10 p.m. on Sept. 17 to the Lake Shore Tavern located in the 1300 block of Lake Avenue in Pasadena, where they treated two men for drug overdoses. Police were asked to speed up their response because of the erratic and aggressive behavior of one of the patients.

A 54-year-old man and a 55-year-old man, later identified as Shawn Devin Floyd of the 200 block of Pike Road in Pasadena, was in the back of an ambulance when he became uncooperative. Police say Floyd unhooked the straps from the gurney, left the ambulance and when officers told him to get back into the ambulance to continue with his medical treatment, he assaulted an officer. Police restrained Floyd and took him to the ground in an attempt to handcuff him.

As officers handcuffed Floyd he became unresponsive, and on-scene fire department personnel immediately rendered medical aid and took him to Baltimore Washington Medical Center. Anne Arundel County detectives were told by several witnesses that they saw the officers take Floyd to the ground and attempt to handcuff him. A search warrant was executed on Floyd’s vehicle, in which suspected PCP was found. The Anne Arundel County drug lab is testing the possible controlled substance.
