Quiet Waters Park To Grow By 19 Acres With County Purchase

The Anne Arundel County Council unanimously voted Monday to purchase more than 19 acres of waterfront property within Quiet Waters Park.

ANNE ARUNDEL COUNTY, MD — A popular recreation area in Anne Arundel County now will be protected from development after the Anne Arundel County Council unanimously voted Monday, Oct. 7, to purchase more than 19 acres of waterfront property within Quiet Waters Park.

The county purchased the property from private land owners with a combination of donations and county funding. The land had been appraised for approximately $8 million and the county will pay only $350,000, explained Councilwoman Lisa Brannigan Rodview, D-Annapolis, during the meeting. Some of the county's funding will come from the Advance Land Acquisition Capital Project.

The Chesapeake Conservancy is orchestrating a $2 million donation, the U.S. Navy is giving $1 million and approximately $2 million will come from Maryland’s Program Open Space initiative that supports conservation efforts.
