House Of Congressman Elijah Cummings Burglarized: Report

BALTIMORE — The home of U.S. Rep. Elijah Cummings was reportedly burglarized early Saturday morning in Baltimore. According to WJZ, the break-in at the home in the 2000 block of Madison Avenue happened at 3:40 a.m. on Saturday, July 27.

The burglary reportedly occurred hours before President Donald Trump began tweeting about the congressman.

The president urged Cummings, who is the chair of the House Committee on Oversight and Reform, to spend more time in his district than worrying about the nation's southern border.

Cummings represented a district that was a "disgusting, rat and rodent infested mess," Trump tweeted at 7:14 a.m.

Cummings Tweeted back: "Mr. President, I go home to my district daily. Each morning, I wake up, and I go and fight for my neighbors. It is my constitutional duty to conduct oversight of the Executive Branch. But, it is my moral duty to fight for my constituents."

Cummings represents District 7, which includes parts of Baltimore City, Baltimore County and Howard County.

It was not clear whether anything was taken from the congressman's home, WJZ reported, and detectives from the Baltimore Police Department's central district were investigating.

This is not the first time that Cummings has had emergency personnel at his residence.

Cummings' house was also the site of a fire in June 2015.
