Police Shooting Ends With Armed Man Hospitalized In Baltimore Co.

Baltimore Co. officers are on administrative leave after a shooting left an armed man hospitalized over the weekend.

BALTIMORE, MD — An armed man was hospitalized over the weekend after being shot by a Baltimore County police officer after the man refused to drop his weapon, the department said.

A release issued by the Baltimore County Police Department on Sunday said officers encountered the man Saturday about 9:15 p.m. in the Overlea area.

Officers responded to the 4900 block of Hazlewood Avenue after receiving reports of shots fired, initially just finding used gun shell casings. The armed man was later located “down the street from where they had initially responded,” according to the release.

When the man refused to drop his firearm and began to run away, officers fired their service weapons. He was subsequently treated and taken to an area hospital.

The extent of the gunman’s injuries were not detailed. No officers were injured in the encounter.

In line with department policy, the officers involved in the shooting have been placed on administrative leave.

Detectives with the department’s homicide unit are leading the investigation.
