The theft of the $15 phone charger occurred between 2:03 and 3:19 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 13, near a hotel on the University of Alabama campus, while Humphrey was believed to have been under the influence of alcohol, according to the police report obtained by the newspaper.
Charging documents state that Humphrey and two women took an Uber from a fraternity and during the ride, he borrowed a phone charger from the driver, which he refused to return upon arriving at his hotel.
Police were called after Humphrey took the device and other cables, elbowed the driver in the side and damaged additional property when he got out of the vehicle, according to charging documents published by The Tuscaloosa News. When police responded, officers allegedly found the charger did not fit Humphrey's phone and returned it to the driver.
“Marlon told us that it was a misunderstanding regarding a $15 telephone charger, which he thought was his," the Baltimore Ravens said in a statement on Thursday. "Our understanding is that he has been interviewed by University of Alabama Police and is cooperating. We are monitoring the situation.”
The Alabama native was reportedly released from the Tuscaloosa County Jail Thursday morning after posting a percentage of his $2,500 bond.
