Several Injured After Explosion At Baltimore Bottling Facility

Four people were injured over the weekend after an explosion occurred at the Coca-Cola Bottling facility in Baltimore, city officials said.

BALTIMORE, MD — Four people were injured Sunday after an explosion broke out at a Coca-Cola bottling facility in Baltimore, authorities said.

In a release, the Baltimore City Fire Department said officials responded to the Coca-Cola Bottling Company Consolidated facility on the 700 block of N. Kresson Street around 10:30 a.m.

Authorities were initially responding to reports of an injured person, later determining that an explosion tied to equipment that handles carbon dioxide had taken place.

Two people were hospitalized with injuries. The department said one of the individuals was transferred in critical condition and that the second person was in serious but stable condition.

Another two individuals were treated at the scene.

A statement obtained by CBS Baltimore from Coca-Cola Consolidated said that those injured were "employees of an external vendor."

It added that the individuals had been "performing CO₂-related work" at the facility.

The incident remains under investigation by Baltimore City officials.
