Sgt. Carrington Shooting: Arrests Made, According to Report
The Baltimore Police Department announced developments in the case of Sgt. Isaac Carrington, shot during a robbery in August.

BALTIMORE, MD — Two people have been arrested in connection with the armed robbery that put a Baltimore police sergeant on life support. The Baltimore Police Department announced the news during a press conference Wednesday, Sept. 18.
Sgt. Isaac "Ike" Carrington, 43, was shot in an armed robbery in front of his home in August.
Police said Carrington was off-duty talking with a neighbor on his front lawn in the 5600 block of Summerfield Avenue when a car believed to be an Acura pulled up, at least one man wearing a face mask got out and the suspect tried to rob the officer and his neighbor at gunpoint before 3:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 8. The neighbor threw his belongings down and ran, and Carrington ran the opposite direction, at which point the gunman chased Carrington and shot him multiple times.

Karon Foster, 25, of the 2200 block of Brookfield Avenue, and Rashaud Nesmith, 18, of the 4000 block of Sinclair Lane, have been charged in the case, police said. They face charges including attempted murder, armed robbery and other offenses.
"It was a robbery and a shooting," Baltimore Police Commissioner Michael Harrison said, declining to comment further on a motive.

"In addition to the attempted murder of Sgt. Carrington, these defendants are also charged for their alleged roles in shootings, armed robberies, carjackings and homicides in Baltimore," the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms & Explosives (ATF) reported, noting the ATF’s National Integrated Ballistics Information Network helped connect shootings to locate the suspects.
Initially after the shooting, Carrington was put on life support at the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center. He was released to a rehab facility Wednesday, Aug. 21.
Baltimore State's Attorney Marilyn Mosby called it a "senseless and heinous crime" and stated that "as a city, we must send a message to anyone who wishes to foster an atmosphere of fear within our neighborhoods that this sort of reckless violence will not be tolerated by the community or Baltimore City law enforcement."
The Investigation
Investigators said the time frame was being compressed across the department to close cases involving violent offenders because lives were being lost in the time it would typically take to find suspects.
Federal agents along with local police used fingerprinting, gun data and GPS information from the vehicle used in the Carrington robbery to identify the suspects, WMAR reported.
One suspect in the Carrington shooting, later identified as Foster, was arrested in a homicide in northeast Baltimore in August.
The community also aided in the investigation. There was a $19,000 reward through the Baltimore ATF and FBI, Metro Crime Stoppers of Maryland, Baltimore Police Department and D.C. bureau of the DEA for information leading to an arrest in the shooting of the 22-year veteran of the Baltimore Police Department, and officials said a number of people provided tips through what they called the "rewards program."
