4 Bel Air Schools Cancel After School Activities on Thursday

The measure will help students get home 'safely and as quickly as possible,' according to Harford County Public Schools.

Harford County Public Schools announced Wednesday that four schools in Bel Air would not have after school and evening activities on Thursday, April 30, citing safety and efficiency as driving forces in the decision.

All after school activities are canceled at the following: Bel Air Elementary School, Bel Air Middle School, Bel Air High School and Homestead-Wakefield Elementary School.

In addition, Bel Air High School will not serve as an after school bus depot on Thursday for magnet programs, according to the announcement, which said that impacted students were notified of alternate plans.

School officials said that there was “no threat” and “no immediate concern about our students’ safety.”

The measures were a precaution to ensure students would be able to get home “safely and quickly as quickly as possible” on Thursday, according to the announcement.

Students circulated plans earlier in the week of a demonstration Thursday at Bel Air High School. The possible march may begin at 5 p.m. Thursday at the high school and continue along Main Street in Bel Air.

The Bel Air Police Department asks anyone with information about the event to contact 410-638-4500.

All afterschool and evening activities will be cancelled tomorrow, Thursday, April 30, at the following locations ONLY: Bel Air Elementary School, Bel Air Middle School, Bel Air High School, and Homestead/Wakefield Elementary School. In addition, Bel Air High School will not be utilized as a bus depot for magnet programs AFTER SCHOOL on Thursday. Individuals affected have been notified of an alternate depot location. Please note that there has been no threat and there is no immediate concern about our students’ safety. We have decided to cancel afterschool and evening activities at these schools as a precaution. This proactive decision is intended to allow our students to arrive home safely and as quickly as possible.
