Bel Air Man Sentenced in Deadly Fallston Hit and Run

The driver of distinctive Jeep was sentenced in death of man walking with neighbor's snowblower last March.

BEL AIR, MD – Almost a year after a Fallston man was killed while walking in front of his house, the driver who hit him and fled the scene was sentenced in Harford County Circuit Court.

Kenneth Borys, 24, of the 300 block of Locust Lane in Bel Air, pleaded guilty to failing to remain at the scene of a crash causing death.

He was sentenced to 10 years in jail with all but one year suspended, and will be on work release. Borys will begin serving his sentence June 1 so that he can finish his schooling at Towson University.

He also entered a guilty plea for possession with intent to distribute drugs, after police came to his home looking for the vehicle in the hit and run and allegedly found him trying to get rid of marijuana, according to court documents. For that, he received a six-month sentence to be served at the same time as his one-year sentence.

Borys will be on probation for five years and must comply with what the Harford County Health Department advises as far as treatment for potential substance abuse issues.

The charges stem from an incident that occurred nearly one year ago.

At approximately 7 p.m. on March 5, 2015, police said that 44-year-old Christian Widomski, a father of two young sons, was walking with his neighbor’s snow blower when he was fatally hit by a vehicle in front of his home in the 2800 block of Harford Road in Fallston.

The suspect vehicle, a distinctive Jeep, left the scene.

Investigators spent ”hundreds of hours” working to find the vehicle and driver before arresting Borys on Sept. 30, 2015, Maryland State Police reported.

Borys was charged with failure to stop his vehicle and remain at the scene of a collision, failure to immediately stop his vehicle at the scene, failure as the driver involved in an accident to render aid, failure to stop after an accident involving damage and failure to stop his vehicle and remain at scene of accident involving bodily injury, police said.

He was also charged with possession with intent to distribute, possession of drugs, possession of paraphernalia and having a firearm to facilitate drug trafficking, according to court records.

Harford County State’s Attorney Joseph Cassilly said that Borys had “no criminal liability” in the death of Widomski, who was walking on a road that was not lit while wearing dark-colored clothing, Fox 45 reported.

Sentencing was set for 1 p.m. on Thursday, March 3, and lasted more than an hour, including a brief recess, as victims including Widomski's mother-in-law and his former wife shared how his death has left a hole in their lives.
