Extension Cord Sparked Joppa House Fire Tuesday: Fire Marshal
A family was displaced because of Tuesday night blaze, fire marshal said.

A family has been displaced as the result of a house fire in Joppa Tuesday night, officials said.
An extension cord was determined to have caused the blaze, which broke out in the 400 block of Dembytown Road at approximately 7:45 p.m., according to the Office of the State Fire Marshal.
Approximately 20 firefighters—from Joppa-Magnolia, Abingdon and Aberdeen Proving Ground—responded, bringing the fire under control within 20 minutes, the fire marshal reported.

The fire was ruled accidental, caused by an electrical failure with an extension cord in a bedroom, the report said.
There was $10,000 in structural damage as a result of the fire, and approximately $5,000 worth of items inside the single-story home were also lost, the fire marshal reported.

The Red Cross was assisting family members who lived in the home, as they were displaced, according to the report.
