House of Cards Repurposes Gas Station Site
Netlix show producers breathe new life into parcel on MD 22/Churchville Road.

CHURCHVILLE, MD — Set designers revitalized an old gas station on MD 22 for the Netflix show House of Cards this week. The business, which has been vacant for 10 years, was staged to look like a gas station called "Surf" for the political drama, The Aegis reported.
The hit Netflix show starring Kevin Spacey and Robin Wright as the President and First Lady is currently filming its fifth season. House of Cards has a sound stage based out of a warehouse in Joppa and has filmed at sites in the region including Harford Community College, the Havre de Grace Library, Liriodendron Mansion, Towson University and a Level Road antique store, among others.
House of Cards has been based in Harford County since 2012 while putting together its first season. That year alone, government officials said the show provided 2,200 jobs for Marylanders and brought in more than $140 million for the state.
