Thefts From Mailboxes In Bel Air Lead To Police Advisory

Bel Air police tell residents one thing they should not be putting in their mailboxes after a recent uptick in criminal activity.

BEL AIR, MD — Police in Bel Air have advised residents in town they may not want to put certain types of mail in their mailboxes. Officials issued an advisory on Monday, April 30, stating that mail thefts have been reported in recent weeks around Bel Air.

In particular, police said people should not use their personal mailboxes if they are sending checks or money.

"Please consider sending payments electronically or dropping checks in a locked mailbox," said the statement from the Bel Air Police Department."In the past few weeks, in and around the Bel Air area, there have been numerous thefts of mail from mailboxes."

Anyone who sees somebody who appears to be tampering with a mailbox is advised to contact police right away.

"Do not approach anyone tampering with mailboxes," police said. "Just call 911 and report the suspicious activity."
