Youths Shatter Police Car Window In Edgewood: Cecil Sheriff

Do you recognize these youths? Officials said they vandalized two police cars in Edgewood.

EDGEWOOD, MD — Several youths in Edgewood vandalized a police car over the weekend, according to authorities. They took a picture of themselves while one stood on a police car before they went on to break the back window of a Cecil County cruiser, officials said.

The Cecil County Sheriff's Office shared surveillance video showing the youths committing the acts of vandalism. Officials said the crime took place in Edgewood around 1:45 a.m. on Sunday, June 10.

The video showed a group of youths approaching two police cars, which were parked in the parking lot of a townhouse community.

Then one of the young people stepped onto the hood of what authorities said was a town police cruiser. At that point in the 78-second video, the sheriff's office added the captions: "One mounts the town patrol car" and "Friends take pictures of stupidity."

The person standing on the patrol car pulled a hoodie overhead and turned around to pose for a group photo.

After finding an object on the ground and hurling it at the town police car, the youths ran away, then returned and threw something at the Cecil County Sheriff's Office vehicle, shattering the rear window of the cruiser.

The Cecil County Sheriff's Office said that when they began throwing things, the young people had gone beyond stupidity and were committing a crime. They were also wasting taxpayer dollars; the Cecil County cruiser is out of commission for repairs.

"They deliberately destroyed your property," the Cecil County Sheriff's Office said. "Help ID them."

The Harford County Sheriff's Office is investigating the vandalism.
