Do you enjoy golfing? Do you have a desire to give back to this community? CCACC’s Pan-Asian Volunteer Health Clinic (PAVHC) is hosting an event that combines golfing with charity to help it expand its services to serve more people.
On June 2 at Richland Golf Club (50 Glenbrook Drive, Middletown, MD 21769), PAVHC is hosting its first Pan Asian Clinic Charity Golf Cup. CCACC held a press release on May 7 to share with the public the importance of this fundraiser as well as introducing this event’s current sponsors. At the same time, CCACC wants to encourage the public to lend a helping hand and show their love for this community so that together we can help people gain access to healthcare services.
Chih-Hsiang Li, CCACC Executive Director, stated that in CCACC’s 36 years, this is only their second fundraiser. The first time was to help build CCACC and help them move into their first office. The purpose of this fundraiser is to bring the community together and work together to support PAVHC in helping more people. This event not only helps raise money for PAVHC but it also lets more people learn about what PAVHC stands for – their visions, their mission, and their goals. PAVHC hopes that more people can learn about their services and that those who need help can come to them.

Kate Lu, Director of PAVHC, mentioned that the clinic has spent the past 15 years focused on serving low-income patients with no insurance. However, starting this year, PAVHC will expand its services to cover anyone who has difficulty accessing healthcare services, including those on Medicare and Medicaid. Currently, PAVHC is working with other private insurance companies to help reach a greater range of patients. On top of providing healthcare services for the general public, PAVHC has been working to represent the Asian population by spreading the art of Chinese medicine, in addition to advocating for resources to support the health and well-being of Asians.
Since 2011, PAVHC has received funding from Montgomery County to provide free tests for Hepatitis B as well as provide vaccines. Starting this year, the Maryland Community Health Resource Commission has provided $160,000 to focus on chronic pain, which allows PAVHC to provide acupuncture and other treatment options to patients. Although PAVHC receives government funding and has a lot of talented volunteers, it still relies strongly on public support and donations, making your support essential to PAVHC’s continuing operations.

The man behind this charity event, CCACC board member Charles Chen, came up with the idea after realizing that golf is a universal sport among the Asian community. An avid golfer himself, he noticed that a lot of non-profit organizations often host golfing tournaments to help fundraise. With the support of his friend, Jimmy Loh, USCGA’s founder, as well as CCACC’s many staff and volunteers, they were able to start working on this fundraiser.
Mr. Chen mentioned that in the past, his contributions consisted of writing a check and being done and over with it. However, as the head of this event, he realized how much work is required and the amount of support needed to create a successful fundraiser. Fortunately, the DMV area is filled with loving and caring people who were willing to support this cause upon hearing about it.
We welcome anyone with a willing heart to come and support PAVHC. You can show your support by participating in the Golf Cup or by sponsoring the event as a company – purchase a booth or donate gifts for our auction.
