How are you caring for your family? Attracting over 140 participants, The Chinese Culture and Community Service Center’s (CCACC) Evergreen Club for senior recreation at the Rockville Senior Center partnered with AARP to introduce people to “Family Caregiving”. AARP is one of the largest non-profit organizations in the US, and Ms. Lily Liu, an AARP representative, was able to dedicate her time to working with CCACC’s Evergreen Club.
On September 6th, the Evergreen Club started their activities as usual, with basic exercises to help seniors maintain their health and energy. Upon arriving, Ms. Lily Liu and her partner Ms. Doris Pao were amazed by the energy and joy that filled the atmosphere, happy to see so many seniors living life to the fullest. They praised CCACC’s Evergreen director, Mr. Chu Wang, and Evergreen’s many volunteers for dedicating their time and efforts to helping seniors in the community.
After CCACC Deputy Executive Director, Ms. Lifang Liu, introduced Ms. Lily Liu, they played a short documentary “Caregiving: The Circle of Love”. Ms. Lily Liu left her job in 2015 to take care of her mother. In 2016, AARP created the documentary “Caregiving: The Circle of Love” that focused on three Asian family caregivers, Liu being one of them. Since then, Liu has devoted some of her time to participating in events and sharing her caregiving experiences.

Liu was born in Taiwan and immigrated to the US when she was six. She grew up under the influence of Chinese culture and mentioned in the documentary the importance of filial piety and how to care for parents. Pao, whose mother passed away three years ago, also shared her caregiving experience.
In addition to the documentary, over 100 “Prepare to Care” guidebooks were handed out. There was a positive response to the entire event. The key to caring for parents? Love.
