Church Burglary Suspect Arrested, Caused $10K In Damage: Police

BETHESDA, MD — A man suspected of breaking into the Chevy Chase United Methodist Church and causing approximately $10,400 in damage has been arrested, police announced Tuesday.

Jose A. Obando-Segura, 30, of Rockville, was charged with second-degree burglary, malicious destruction of property, and theft, according to Montgomery County police. On Oct. 2, a burglary suspect allegedly broke into the church at 7001 Connecticut Ave., destroyed property, ransacked a classroom, and ate packaged food from a donation bin.

Authorities released surveillance video of the suspect to the public and local law enforcement agencies. Rockville City police officers provided county investigators with the suspect's identity.

Investigators served Obando-Segura with a criminal warrant on Tuesday, according to police. He is being held at the Central Processing Unit in Rockville on an unrelated charge.
