Court Date Set for Mom of Missing Toddlers

Catherine Hoggle's attorney wants her charges dropped. Her children, Jacob and Sarah, are still missing in Montgomery County.

Montgomery County District Court has scheduled a hearing on Nov. 6 for Catherine Hoggle, the Clarksburg mother charged in the disappearance of her two young children, Jacob, 2, and Sarah, 3.

Hoggle, 27, faces three misdemeanor charges -- detaining a child, neglect of a minor and obstructing and hindering. The children have been missing since Sept. 8.

The court date follows a request from Hoggle’s attorney, David Felsen, for charges to be dropped against Hoggle, who has refused to cooperate with police or family members looking for the youngsters, according to Montgomery Community Media.

Felsen told the news outlet Hoggle was interrogated by police on Oct. 1 without an attorney present while she was at the Clifton T. Perkins Hospital Center.

Officers pressured the woman to reveal the location of the two children and called her a monster, according to a previous Patch story.

On Wednesday, Montgomery County Police Capt. Darren Francke told Montgomery Community Media the hope is for Hoggle her attorney or an anonymous citizen to come forward with information regarding the children’s whereabouts.

Anyone withholding information on Jacob and Sarah’s whereabouts is aiding in an ongoing crime, Francke said.

Troy Turner, the children’s father, told the news outlet he recently spoke with Hoggle by phone and she said the children are fine. Hoggle also told Turner she had been in contact with someone who has been with the children since her arrest on Sept. 12.

Timeline of Events

On Sept. 7, Hoggle borrowed her father’s gray 2012 Nissan Rogue SUV and said she was picking up pizza for Jacob. Hoggle returned three hours later without the boy or pizza and told her parents she had left Jacob at a playmate’s house.

On Sept. 8, Hoggle left home with Sarah and told Turner she was taking the child to a day-care center. That afternoon when Turner asked about the children’s whereabouts, Hoggle would not tell him where the children were. Both Hoggle and Turner set off for the police station, but stopped at a Chick-Fil-A near the Germantown Transit Center where Hoggle left the restaurant without Turner noticing and disappeared. On Sept. 12, Hoggle was found and arrested in Germantown.

Hoggle is now being held at the Clifton T. Perkins Hospital Center and awaits results from a mental evaluation.

Awareness for Jacob and Sarah

Family-led and police searches are still ongoing for Jacob and Sarah.

Francke told Montgomery Community Media the Montgomery County Police plan to launch a large search within the next six to eight weeks as the weather and seasons change the terrain.

A FindJacobandSarah Facebook page has been set up to spread awareness of the Hoggle case and organize weekend searches by volunteers. A Go Fund Me account has been established to create a reward in the case and had $2,892 in the account Wednesday afternoon.
