Five Charged In Theft At Saks Fifth Avenue In Chevy Chase

The suspects are accused of stealing between $20,000 and $30,000 in Gucci merchandise from the Chevy Chase store.

CHEVY CHASE, MD — Five suspects were charged Tuesday in a July 31 theft that occurred at the Saks Fifth Avenue store in Chevy Chase, the Montgomery County Police Department said in a press release.

Police were called to the Gucci store located within the Saks Fifth Avenue store around 11:34 a.m. on July 31. Officers responded to a report of a robbery, but detectives later classified the crime as a theft.

Investigators found that two suspects entered the Gucci area of the store and assaulted a male and female employee, police said. Five more suspects then entered the store and began stealing merchandise, later valued at $20,000 to $30,000.

An investigation, detectives identified Devonte Jermaine Brooks, Dion M. Dean, Justin Lamar Taylor, Trashawn Anthony Trammell, and Samuel Cordell Whitmire, Jr., as suspects.

Brooks and Dean were arrested on a Montgomery County arrest warrant charging them with Theft: $25,000 to under $100,000, police said. Dean is currently being held without bond. Brooks was released after posting a $7,500 bond.

Trammell was charged via a Montgomery County arrest warrant with Theft: $25,000 to under $100,000. He is currently incarcerated in Washington, D.C., awaiting extradition to Maryland.

Whitmire, Jr. and Taylor were charged via Maryland District Court Summons with Theft: $25,000 to under $100,000 and destruction of property.

This remains an ongoing investigation as detectives continue to work to identify additional suspects.

  • Trashawn Anthony Trammell, age 24, of an unconfirmed address.
  • Samuel Cordell Whitmire, Jr., age 23, of the 5400 block of North Morgan Street in Alexandria, Virginia.
