Judge Orders Release Of Montgomery's Voter Registration List

Judicial Watch filed a lawsuit against the Maryland State Boards of Elections over Montgomery County's voter registration list.

BETHESDA, MD — A federal judge has ordered the state of Maryland to release its voter registration list for Montgomery County.

The action came after Judicial Watch, a D.C.-based conservative group, filed a lawsuit against the Maryland State Boards of Elections, alleging that they were denied access to the voter registration list.

The group sought the voter list data after arguing that there were more registered voters in Montgomery County than residents over the age of 18 who could register to vote.

U.S. District Court Judge Ellen Lipton Hollander, according to Judicial Watch, ruled that the voter registration list can be made available to the public under the National Voter Registration Act (NVRA).

"Now that the court has cleared the way for Judicial Watch to obtain the Montgomery voter data, our efforts to force the State of Maryland to comply with the NVRA and clean up its voter rolls may proceed," said Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton.

According to Fitton, the victory in Maryland follows other similar and successful efforts brought to Kentucky, California, Ohio, and Indiana.

"After our successful efforts to bring Kentucky, California, Ohio and Indiana into compliance with the National Voter Registration Act, it's time for Maryland politicians to stop the politics, see the light, get right with the law and clean up the State's voter rolls," Fitton said. "If they don't, we’ll see them in court again."
