Police are searching for a suspect who pretended to be a rideshare driver and robbed a woman inside her Bethesda home.

BETHESDA, MD — Authorities are looking for a suspect who pretended to be a rideshare driver and robbed a woman inside her Bethesda apartment.
On Saturday, March 30 — around 4:46 a.m. — Montgomery County Police responded to a residence in the 6800 block of Wisconsin Ave. for the report of a home invasion robbery.
According to authorities, the female victim had been out with friends in the downtown Bethesda area when she ordered a ridesharing service to take her back home. The woman got into the suspect's vehicle, assuming that he was her ride home.

The unidentified man drove the victim to her residence and demanded payment, police said.
The victim, however, told detectives that she had paid for the ride through the ridesharing company's app and, therefore, did not owe the driver more money.

Police say the suspect followed the victim inside the apartment building and got into an elevator with her. While there, the suspect unsuccessfully attempted to snatch the woman's purse.
He then entered the victim's apartment, stole property, and fled the scene, police said.
Detectives later determined that the suspect did not work for any ridesharing companies.
Montgomery County Police have published surveillance video of the suspect, which is embedded at the bottom of this post.
