Metro Worker Falls 30 Feet Down Shaft
Montgomery County firefighters had to rescue a Metro worker who fell about 30 feet down the Elm Street shaft in Bethesda.
BETHESDA, MD — A Metro worker had to be rescued by Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services early Thursday after he fell an estimated 30 to 35 feet down a utility shaft in Bethesda, authorities said. The accident happened about 1:30 a.m. at the Elm Street Metro shaft near 7272 Wisconsin Ave.
Fire and Rescue spokesman Pete Piringer said firefighters used a rope rescue to extricate the worker from the shaft. Piringer told Montgomery Community Media the worker is in stable condition at an area hospital.
Part of Wisconsin Avenue was blocked by fire trucks while the technical rescue was underway.
