Toxic Teen Culture Museum Created By B-CC Students Opens April 26

Created by Bethesda-Chevy Chase students, 'Coming of Age in Toxicity' is a pop-up museum that explores today's toxic teen culture.

BETHESDA, MD — A pop-up museum that explores toxicity in today's teen culture will open Friday in Bethesda.

Created and hosted by Bethesda-Chevy Chase High School students,"Coming of Age in Toxicity" lets visitors "step into the shoes of teenagers for a day (or two or three) and navigate the many forms of toxicity they grow up with today: from toxic stress, to toxic comparison culture, to toxic masculinity," according to the museum's website.

In 2018, students created their first pop-up called the "Museum of Contemporary American Teenagers." This year's display — which runs through Sunday — will feature art, exhibits, and a 3-D board game/escape room.

"All of the exhibits are based on authentic research by teen about teens," according to the website. "To give you an idea of how authentic, the specialists behind the podcast 'Their Own Devices' have interviewed and featured groups on topics ranging from hookup culture to finstas."

Other topics that will be featured include issues with the college admissions process, achievement and opportunity gaps, and toxic masculinity.
