2 Charged with Murder, One Suspect Injured: Police

Prince George's County Police say two men tried to rob an acquaintance Friday, which led to a fatal shootout.

A robbery gone wrong between acquaintances led to Friday’s homicide and gunshot wounds to one of two men now under arrest on murder charges, authorities say.

Prince George’s County Police have charged two suspects in connection with Friday’s homicide in Fort Washington. They are Rashawd Wiggins, 19, of the 3100 block of Martin Luther King Boulevard in Washington, D.C., and Derron Alexander, 18, of the 7500 block of Abbington Drive in Oxon Hill.

Both men are charged with first-degree murder.

On July 31, 2015, at about 12:45 am, Police say the suspects fatally shot Domanic Jamal Nelson, 22, in the 1000 block of Palmer Road in Fort Washington. Nelson was found outside a residence suffering from gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead on the scene.

Investigators say Nelson and the two suspects were acquaintances. Detectives believe the suspects intended to rob Nelson, and Wiggins and the victim exchanged gunfire during the attempted holdup.

Wiggins was also shot, and later sought medical treatment at an area hospital. He’s currently in intensive care at a hospital in the District.

Alexander is in custody of the Department of Corrections on a no-bond status.
