$33K Worth of 'Crack on Steroids' Seized from Businesses
Three Prince George's County convenience stores reportedly sold synthetic marijuana to undercover officers.

An undercover sting to crack down on the sales of synthetic marijuana, described as “crack on steroids” by police, led to the seizure of more than $30,000 in drugs at three convenience stores.
The months-long investigation into the illegal substance led the Prince George’s County Police Department on Thursday to seize 1,652 packets of synthetic drugs and paraphernalia used to smoke the drug from three businesses in the county.
Police say the total estimated street value of the synthetic drugs is $33,310.

Working with uniformed patrol officers, undercover narcotics detectives conducted search warrants at stores in Temple Hills, Capitol Heights and District Heights Thursday afternoon. Detectives targeted Global Discount Tobacco at 7089 Allentown Road, The Lucky Mart at 5240 Marlboro Pike and the Sunoco gas station at 7622 Marlboro Pike.
Major Jason Bogue, commander of the narcotics division, said, “It’s critical our business owners know we won’t tolerate the illegal sale of these very dangerous substances. It’s equally critical parents hear this message: these packets resemble marijuana only in that the substance inside is leafy and green. Synthetics are like crack on steroids. The high is similar to the high a person gets after smoking PCP and the results can be equally as catastrophic.”

While synthetic marijuana is not a widespread problem in the county, police say, the department is teaming up with the Prince George’s County State’s Attorney’s office to develop legislation to combat the substance.
