Bowie Station Closed Through Weekend After Amtrak Accident

MARC officials say neither the Odenton nor the Bowie State stations will be open through the weekend.

MARC Penn Line trains will not stop at the Odenton or Bowie State stations this weekend after an Amtrak train accident.

WTOP reports an Amtrak spokeswoman said the rear car of a New York-bound train was damaged Friday night when a wheel lost contact with the track in Odenton. A total of 109 passengers boarded another train to finish their journey. No one was injured.

The damaged railcar was still on the tracks Saturday morning, which MARC said, is causing delays in the area. Crews will inspect the tracks, investigatr the cause of the accident and removr the damaged railcar.

MARC officials say Odenton Station customers should use BWI Marshall Airport Station and Bowie State Station customers should use New Carrollton Station.

The accident has resulted in an 8-mile segment of single-track operations for all MARC and Amtrak trains. By not stopping at Odenton or Bowie State, delays to all trains will be significantly minimized, authorities said.
