Father-Daughter Dance Undergoes Name Change To Be More Inclusive
Parents have spoken out about calling a father-daughter dance a different name to be more reflective of all students and their families.
PRINCE GEORGE'S COUNTY, MD — An upcoming school dance has undergone a name change to become more inclusive of all students. Parents in Prince George's County attended a recent PTA meeting to request the name change from a father-daughter dance to something that isn't gender labeled.
George Ceaser told WUSA9 that gender labeled events cause unnecessary pain. He and his husband have a son who attends Whitehall Elementary School in Bowie. Calling the event a father-daughter dance is "unfair," he told WUSA9.
"He gets questions of, if you go to the father-daughter dance, well why are you here? But, if we go to the mother-son dance, it's why are your two Dads here. He shouldn't have to go through that, no child should," Ceaser said.
