“While today’s outcome cannot undo the unimaginable harm this has caused our victim, it reinforces our commitment to safeguarding the most vulnerable in our community, especially our children,” Jackson said. “Public safety officials hold a position of trust in our community and are expected to uphold the highest standards of integrity and respect for the law, both in and out of uniform. Our responsibility is to pursue justice for our victims, and this conviction reflects our commitment to ensuring that justice was served.”

Monge will be sentenced July 10. Due to the victim’s age and the sensitive nature of the case, no additional details will be released, Jackson said in a statement.

Hyattsville Police Chief Jarod Towers released a statement about the case.

"We recognize the seriousness of these crimes and the significant harm they cause to victims. Conduct of this nature is deeply troubling and inconsistent with the values and standards expected of anyone associated with this department and damages the trust our community places in us. Jonathan Monge is no longer employed by the Hyattsville Police Department. He has been suspended without pay since his November indictment," Towers said.

“This conviction reflects the seriousness of the offenses and reinforces that individuals will be held accountable, regardless of their position. The department fully cooperated with investigators and prosecutors throughout this case and remains committed to accountability, transparency and maintaining the trust of the community we serve," Towers added.
