A preliminary investigation indicates Abbott got into a fight with a second male student in a hallway. When the assigned school resource officer arrived, the officer saw Abbott attempt to hand his laptop bag to another student, police said. The officer took the bag, searched it and found a handgun inside.
The second student involved in the fight also faces charges, according to police. Officers said the sophomore pulled out a knife during the fight and suffered a minor self-inflicted knife wound to his hand. Abbott was uninjured by the knife.
