Kidnapping, Armed Robbery Charges Filed Against Men For Incident With Locksmith

A locksmith on a service call in Prince George's was kidnapped. The two suspects have been charged with armed robbery and kidnapping.

PRINCE GEORGE'S COUNTY, MD — The Prince George’s County Police has arrested and charged two suspects for kidnapping a man and robbing him at gunpoint. The suspects are 20-year-old David Zanders of Washington, D.C., and 22-year-old Lorenzo Day of Upper Marlboro. The victim was not injured in the incident, according to the police department.

On June 30 at approximately 8 p.m., the victim, who is a locksmith, was in the 3500 block of Silver Park Drive in Suitland for a service call. While there, the two suspects also requested assistance with making a key. When the victim walked over to help them, one of the suspects pulled out a gun and demanded the victim get into their car, a red Dodge Charger, the police department reported. He was driven to multiple ATMs to withdraw money and also was forced to call a family member asking for cash. A family member then called 911, concerned that the victim was in danger.

Officers located the suspects’ car in the area of Sir Lucas Lane in Clinton. The officers attempted to stop the car but the driver took off. Officers pursued the car until the driver crashed in the 10400 block of Piscataway Road, according to a police report. The two suspects then ran from the car. With help from the police department's aviation unit, officers apprehended both suspects.

An AK style pistol was recovered from the vehicle and a second gun was located by a PGPD K9 in the area where the suspects bailed out of the car. The suspect vehicle also was stolen, according to the police department. The victim was found unharmed in the stolen vehicle.

Zanders and Day have been charged with armed robbery and kidnapping along with gun-related charges.
