Last Day Of School Pushed Back By PG County Schools
Prince George's County Public Schools changed the date that the current school year ends after state officials rejected a waiver request.

UPPER MARLBORO, MD — Prince George's County Public Schools may have thrown families a curve when officials changed the date that the current school year ends. An email from the district on May 18 apologized for the late change, which stemmed from the state's refusal to grant a waiver.
Because of two emergency closings in March — one for students and one for students and staff — students must attend two more days of classes in June, and teachers have one more work day scheduled. A waiver from the mandatory 180-day school calendar would have allowed classes to end June 9 for students and June 12 for teachers.
According to the notice sent Thursday, the school system recently learned its request was not approved.
