A Baltimore man has been charged in connection with the fatal shooting of a woman from El Salvador in town for her grandson's funeral.

PRINCE GEORGE'S COUNTY, MD — A Baltimore man has been charged with murder in the fatal shooting of a grandmother March 28 in Capitol Heights, authorities said.

Troy Medley, 36, has been charged in the death of Lidia Chinchilla De Carrillo, 62, of El Salvador. She was in Prince George's County attending her grandson's funeral. The grandson, 25-year-old Moises Martinez, was killed March 22 in a car crash.

Prince George's County police officers were called to the 600 block of Drum Avenue for a report of a shooting March 28 shortly after 9 p.m. They found Chinchilla De Carrillo suffering from a gunshot wound. She died a short time later at an area hospital.

Patricia Carrillo, the victim’s daughter, told WSAZ her mother had been in town for one day before she was killed.

According to the family, Chinchilla De Carrillo was shot inside a car in the 600 block of Drum Avenue as she was entering the neighborhood. Patricia Carrillo said she thought her mother was having a diabetic crash after hearing five gunshots. But then her husband saw two bullet holes in the passenger seat, WSAZ reported.
