Man Killed in ATV Accident Identified: Update

The recently married man reportedly was illegally driving an all-terrain vehicle on county road when it was hit by SUV in Capitol Heights.

CAPITOL HEIGHTS, MD — Authorities have released the name of a man who died Sunday night when his ATV struck a vehicle.

Jerome Odom, 29, of Beechnut Road in Capitol Heights was illegally driving an ATV that crashed into an SUV at Walker Mills Road and Waterford Road. Odom was taken to an area hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

The man’s 12-year-old stepdaughter, who was also on the ATV, was seriously injured, reports WJLA. A relative of the victim told WJLA that Odom had recently married and has two children, ages one and five.

Prince George’s County Police say neither Odom nor his passenger wore safety helmets at the time of the accident.

The ATV was eastbound on Walker Mill Road when a westbound SUV struck Odom’s vehicle as the SUV turned left onto Waterford Drive.

The names of Odom’s passenger and the SUV driver have not been released.

Police say it is illegal to drive all-terrain vehicles on county-maintained roads. If stopped for driving an ATV, the driver faces a fine of up to $290. The ATV can be impounded and the driver faces the possibility of arrest for operating an uninsured vehicle.
