Officials Break Ground On $22M Police And Public Safety Building In Hyattsville

Officials broke ground on the $22M Police And Public Safety Building in Hyattsville last week.

PRINCE GEORGE'S COUNTY, MD — The City of Hyattsville broke ground for the city's new $22 million police and public safety building last week. Located at 3505 Hamilton Street, the 35,000-square-foot building will be constructed in an area of the city that allows officers to respond more quickly to emergency calls.

"Historic finishes will be preserved on the first floor, which will include a large community room and a dedicated office that will expand the Department’s mental health programming with a social services staff member who will respond to walk-in requests for help," the city stated in a press release.

Plans for the Hyattsville Police and Public Safety Building include both new construction that will expand the building’s original footprint and adaptive reuse of the original bank building. Many historic finishes will be preserved on the first floor, which will include a large community room and a dedicated office that will expand the department’s mental health programming with a social services staff member who will respond to walk-in requests for help.

The building also will have large conference rooms, space for the department's K9 and facility dogs, and a computer lab for training, an enhanced technology infrastructure, private and secure areas where suspects and victims can enter through different entrances and upgraded office spaces.
