PG County Man Arrested in Torture, Murders of DC Family

Washington DC Police have confirmed to The Washington Post that Daron Dylon Wint, 34, of Lanham, a suspect in the DC mansion murders, is in custody.

Several media outlets report that Wint’s brother was arrested with him and that a large amount of cash was found in a truck they were driving.
Police reportedly followed a white Chevy Cruze, according to NBC-4, from Prince George’s County into the District.

Police arrested Wint on Rhode Island Avenue NE, the TV station reported.
Police were looking in New York City Thursday for Wint, the suspect in the brutal murders of a DC family and their housekeeper, according to D.C. Police Chief Cathy Lanier, who held a press conference about the murders Thursday. Wint’s girlfriend reportedly lives in the Brooklyn area.
U.S. Marshals and the NYPD were tracking leads in New York to find the suspect police say is tied to the murders in Washington, D.C. of Savvas Savopoulos, 46, his wife, Amy Savopoulos, 47, son, Philip, 10 and housekeeper Veralicia Figueroa, 57.All were found dead last May 14 while firefighters put out a blaze at the family’s mansion in Northwest D.C.
Police quickly surmised the family was killed before the intentionally set fire.
DNA left on a pizza at the mansion led police to Wint, according to the Post. Domino’s PIzza was delivered the night of May 13 to the DC mansion while the family was being held captive, and may have been tortured, according to police.
Wint has a record that includes charges of assault, carrying concealed weapons and theft in Prince George’s County, according to several media reports. His home address is near where the family’s blue Porsche was found burning late May 14, the day the bodies were found. Police released a grainy video of a suspect caught on surveillance video near where the car was found.
