Slain Teacher: Gladys Tordil's Family Needs Donations to Bury Mom
Gladys Torpil was killed last week by her husband, Eulalio Torpil, police say. Family members want to bury her in her native Philippines.

PRINCE GEORGE'S COUNTY, MD — People who don’t even know Gladys Tordil, or her two teenage daughters, are chipping in to help send the slain teacher’s girls to college.
But the family has a more immediate need that it must also lean on the Prince George’s County community to fill: Sending Gladys’ body home to the Philippines for burial.
Gladys, a Parkdale High School chemistry teacher, was gunned down May 5 by her estranged husband, Eulalio Tordil, authorities say. She was shot outside High Point High School in Beltsville as she waited to pick up her two daughters, Grace and Nikki Tordil, who are both seniors at High Point.

Arnedo Valera with the Migrant Heritage Commission is helping the family with its burial plans for Gladys. The international journey will cost the family between $8,000 and $10,000, Valera told WTOP.
“I’m pretty sure that our society is generous. The immigrant community is generous. They will make this happen,” he said.
How to Donate for Funeral Expenses
The commission has an online site where donations can be made to help pay for the family’s burial expenses, and for other costs the Tordil girls face. Click on DONATE and state it’s for GLADYS’ FUND.
The commission says all donations will used for the intended funeral and related travel expenses. Once those costs have been fully covered, the remaining donations will all be given to the Tordil children, organizers said.
Checks should be made payable to Migrant Heritage Commission (MHC) with memo (Funeral & Repatriation -GLADYS FUND) and mail to: 3900 Germantown Road, Suite 100, Fairfax, VA 22030.
The States Attorney’s office for Prince George’s County says it is working with Valera to secure a visa for Gladys Tordil’s sister so she can travel to Maryland, handle her estate and accompany her nieces to their mother’s funeral.
College Fund for Daughters
Friends of Gladys have set up a GoFundMe fundraiser online to help her daughters go on to college as they planned.
Grace and Nikki, both seniors at High Point High School, are set to attend the University of Maryland Baltimore County and the University of Maryland College Park in fall.
