Send in your nominations for the name of the new addition to the pink unit.

The latest addition to Prince George’s County’s Fire/Emergency Medical Services Department’s “Proud to be Pink” campaign is on the streets.

The pumper, as well as its two predecessors. are designed to raise awareness for breast cancer.

In October 2012, “Pinky,” an engine wrapped in pink, was introduced to the public. “Hope,” a pink paramedic transport, made its debut earlier this year.
Fire department officials asked the public to submit names for the paramedic transport, and the same process will be used to determine the new name of the pumper.

Everyone is invited to submit a nomination, but when choosing a name this time, authorities remind residents that while “Pinky” and “Hope” were entirely pink, the lavender strip around the pumper represents all cancers.
Entries can be sent via Twitter to @PGFDPIO and through Facebook. All tweets and posts should include #PGFDPINK. Those without a social media account can send nominations through email to mebrady@co.pg.md.us.
The deadline for submissions is Sept. 28.
The winning entry will be announced on Sept. 30 at 11 a.m. during the dedication ceremony for the new pumper at the Capital Heights Fire/EMS Station.
In the event that multiple entries are submitted with the same name for the winning selection, the first person whose entry was received will get an official PGFD uniform shirt worn by personnel during October.
