Driver In 'Suspicious' Capitol Hill Crash Identified As College Park Man: Reports
Police identified a College Park man as the driver who hit a barricade and rammed into a U.S. Capitol Police cruiser near Capitol Hill.

WASHINGTON, DC — Police identified the driver who hit a barricade and rammed into a U.S. Capitol Police cruiser near Capitol Hill Monday afternoon, according to WJLA. (Subscribe to Washington DC Patch to stay up to date with all local news.)
Jamie Villatoro, 33, of College Park was identified by police Tuesday. Police said Villatoro was charged with assault with a deadly weapon (vehicle), assaulting an officer and aggravated reckless driving.
The car crashed into a barrier near the Library of Congress and U.S. Capitol Building. Villatoro was brought to a hospital with minor injuries, along with a Capitol Police Officer, police said.

According to reports, police worked to "disrupt the vehicle's trunk" and detonated two controlled explosions to see whether there were dangerous materials in the car. The vehicle was cleared with "negative results" by about 3:30 p.m.

Police said there was no evidence to suggest the incident was linked to terrorism.
The incident resulted in the following road closures: Independence Avenue SE between Washington Avenue and Third Street; Second Street SE between East Capitol Street and C Street; Pennsylvania Avenue SE between Third Street and Second Street. Drivers are warned to stay clear of the area.
